The Exchange Idea
The Exchange Club was started in Detroit in 1911 to allow business people to meet and “exchange” ideas. Exchange is the second oldest service organization in the United States.
The original purpose and early project was to help establish airports for national defense. As the Club grew and evolved, so did its purpose. Our major focus now is the Prevention of Child Abuse.
The Exchange Club of Fond du Lac was chartered November 7th, 1937.
The club was one of only a handful or service organizations to be recognized by President George H. Bush in 1989. There are no authorized foreign Exchange affiliates. Former President Bush is an honorary member of the Exchange Club of Houston, Texas.
Besides being dedicated to the national purpose of Prevention of Child Abuse, the Club stands for patriotism. Every Club begins its meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and displays the United States Flag. It was Exchange who started National Crime Prevention Week.
Exchange is not all work and no play; an integral part of the Club is the social aspect. Club members like to get together and have a good time. None of the funds raised for charitable purposes, however, are used for social purposes; members pay their own way for social events.
